It has been said that the eyes are the window to the human soul. Certainly, the size of someone's pupils can provide us with key information about how they may be feeling. Emotions can cause our pupils to dilate. Arousal and love often have this effect. But these are not the only emotions that can cause our pupils to increase in size. Other feelings such as anxiety, fear, and anger, can also result in pupil dilation. Eyes are so revealing that in psychology there's actually a 'Reading the Mind in the Eyes' test. Despite the fact that recent research has cast doubts on its efficacy and validity, the existence of such a measure says something about our human desire to read the message of another's eyes. When we look at others, what do they see in our eyes? Do we look at them with 'smiley' eyes, or with eyes of suspicion, doubt, or fear? Jesus' eyes tell us a great deal about how He feels towards us. In the vision of Jesus he received on the island of Patmos, the apostle John says that Jesus' eyes were "like a flame of fire" (Revelation 1:14). What does this mean but that God's love for you is so great that it can only be described as fire! His eyes are on fire with love for you today, everyday, and always.
