Imagined Fragrances

How is your olfactory imagination?

It is widely accepted that most people can picture an object in their mind, as well as imagining sounds and movements of objects, but how good are they at imagining smells? Until recently, many olfactory researchers believed that the human ability to imagine odours was limited or non-existent, but a new study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology contradicts this belief, confirming what some of us have long believed - that the ability to imagine a wide range of specific scents seems to be common. What's your favourite fragrance? Why not imagine it now? Even better, why not exploit your 'smell memories' by looking back and remembering great fragrant moments from your past - the wine at a memorable dinner, the smell of freshly mown grass after the rain, the scent of blossom in spring, and so on. There's a whole world here to enjoy. Spiritual fragrances can represent another level again, as we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to envision us with scents from Heaven. The Bible says that our prayers rise to God as incense. Can you imagine that? Imagine the fragrance of the wine and the small of fresh bread at Communion. Enrich your experience today with a new world of imagined fragrances.
