If spirituality is about faith, then we are all spiritual, for the moment we sit on a chair, we trust it to bear our weight. But faith has many forms and expressions, some inward and some outward. A recent longitudinal study in the US found that millennials are leaving organised religion and showing an increasing lack of engagement with established religious groups. It
also found that many are holding on to their spirituality but reshaping it to better align with their own values. This finding may reflect a truth that we have long known, namely that for belief to be meaningful, it must be personal. What has been your spiritual experience? It may or may not easily fit the outward structures of organised religion, but it is your personal experience, and as such it is of the greatest value. Whether or not we are part of an organised
religious group, let us never lose our personal connection with God, however we may experience it.
