Do you believe in love at first sight? Recent research at the Kinsey Institute has shown a 30% increase in those who believe in it over the last decade. Love at first sight is an attractive concept to many, but observation and research both show that it’s love at second sight that makes the difference in stable and lasting relationships. It can be easy to enjoy the stars and the violins, but the bills and busyness of family life are something else. Whether or not we would claim to have experienced love at first sight, we can all invest in our close relationships. Having only one word for love in English means that we may fail to recognise that love can have many forms and expressions. An immediate attraction can certainly be very strong, but there is also a bond of love and friendship that can grow deeper as we face and overcome
life’s challenges together.
