Mental health, a vital field of psychological enquiry and application, encompasses every dimension of human personhood, including spiritual, cognitive, motivational, affective, physiological, behavioural, and contextual themes. It is concerned to understand and promote personal wellbeing. Our mental health can be seen as both an outcome of our genetics and experience, and as a factor shaping how we think, feel, and act throughout life. It affects how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices, and it can increase or diminish over time, according to the responses of the individual. Christian Psychology offers many valuable insights and helpful interventions in relation to mental health needs. Both its understanding of the mind and its tools for advancing mental health rest upon a foundation of systematic scientific research, evidence-based practice, and revelation-informed inquiry. Christian Psychology teaches us that full mental health is not simply the absence of mental illness, but the presence of God in a person’s life. Through faith in Christ, a person is born again, beginning a personal and experiential relationship with Him. Those who choose to daily walk and talk with Jesus will experience progressive transformation into the likeness of God by the Holy Spirit. Psychological changes resulting from this process will include increases in resilience, self-awareness, and emotional balance. By renewing the mind through active and ongoing communion with God, people grow in their relationship with Him and move towards greater mental health and wholeness.
