HEXACO

Recognising honesty and humility

The HEXACO model of personality expands upon the well-known Big Five framework by introducing a powerful sixth dimension: Honesty–Humility. While the Big Five personality dimensions (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Emotionality) capture much of the richness of human personality, Honesty–Humility adds a vital lens for understanding our moral character and social integrity. This trait reflects sincerity, fairness,
modesty, and a resistance to exploiting others for personal gain. Its inclusion has deepened psychological research, allowing scientists to better predict ethical behaviour, reduce blind spots in personality assessment, and explore how moral virtues influence life satisfaction. In the realm of wellbeing, Honesty–Humility fosters trust, cooperation, and authentic connections. These are qualities that ripple outward, strengthening communities and empowering individuals to live with purpose and integrity. By weaving moral character into
the tapestry of personality science, the HEXACO model offers not just a clearer picture of who we are, but also a compass pointing toward how we might flourish. The ultimate moral compass belongs to God, and through daily fellowship with Christ we may walk in the light of His ethics and wisdom, navigating the often confusing and complex moral and ethical dilemmas of this mortal life.
